NWFD of the year 2009/10 judging underway

Having received over 200 nominations, organisers of the second annual North West Finance Director Awards have begun the task of judging the entries, with 40 candidates already shortlisted for interview by the judging panel.

The awards set up by financial recruitment specialists Sharp Consultancy, with support from Barclays Commercial Bank, Grant Thornton and Halliwells were established last year to underline the importance the FD role brings to the success of all sectors of North West business.

Commenting on the quality of entries, Chris Sharp, founder of Sharp Consultancy, said, “Now more than ever, FD’s are proving their value to board rooms in using their commercial acumen to ensure their businesses not only survive but continue to prosper during difficult economic times. With the North West economy continuing to outperform other areas of the country, we are pleased to be building on the success of last year’s awards to highlight the contribution they make.

“The quality of entries this year has been outstanding and the judging panel has had a difficult task on its hands selecting which entrants to put forward for interview. Amongst other judging criteria we’re looking for FD’s who have made an impact on their business through their leadership style as well as evidence of how they have influenced the overall strategic direction of the business.”

Categories in the North West Finance Director Awards includePLC Finance Director of the YearFinance Director of the Year for businesses less than £50m turnover ; Company Finance Director of the Year for businesses more than £50m turnover; Young Finance Director (under 35) and the Lifetime Achievement Award/ Unique Contribution to Business award.

The awards judging panel will include James Cliffe from Barclays, David Grundy from Grant Thornton, Mark Halliwell from Halliwells and Chris Sharp from Sharp Consultancy and they will be joined by last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award and former Finance Director and CEO of Speedy Hire PLC, John Brown.

The awards will culminate with a celebratory gala dinner at the prestigious Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Thursday 4th February 2010
