Sharp Executive Cup Football Tournament

Companies from all around Sheffield and Doncaster participated including; DLA, Helen of Troy, Polypipe, ESG, Symmetry Medical, PKF, Corus and Sheffield United.

Teams were cheered on enthusiastically by colleagues and friends in what was a fun and enjoyable evening.

Practice sessions for the Sharp Team in the lead up to the main event had been unfortunately cut short after just five minutes of play when the ball found a resting place in the River Don! However the team performed rather better on the night of the tournament and just narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals. Semi finalists from Group 1 were ESG and DLA 1 who played the semi finalists from Group 2 – Corus and Sheffield United. Sheffield United beat ESG to make it to the finals where they played Corus who had beaten DLA 1 on penalties.

While exhausted players from the other teams enjoyed the burgers and hotdogs provided, Corus and Sheffield United played a nail biting final cheered on by all. It was neck and neck until the final minute when Corus sneaked a goal past Sheffield United and were duly crowned winners of the first Sharp Tournament.

So a proud Corus team lifted the prestigious Sharp Consultancy Cup and both teams were presented with medals. Alex Baker, who organised the event, commented "I felt the evening was a great success and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time. Due to the large turn out we will no doubt be holding something similar before the year is out."

Sharp are keen to make this a regular event and to welcome Corus back to defend their title. We would like to thank all the teams who attended and hope to see you all next time.
