Young Accountant of the Year 2009
The Sharp Consultancy Young Accountant of the Year has been announced at the annual dinner of the Leeds Chartered Accountant Students’ Society (LCASS).
Financial recruiters Sharp Consultancy named Victoria Wilson from Grant Thornton as the Young Accountant of the Year. Victoria graduated in Economics and Economic History before joining the firm’s Audit department and subsequently qualifying as a chartered accountant.
During her training, Victoria also enjoyed a six month secondment with a major bank and completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks walk for charity, raising over £2,000. The panel of judges were impressed with her excellent leadership skills, high technical competence and her ability to take ownership of complex projects at a very early stage in her career.
As well as the coveted title of Young Accountant of the Year, Victoria received a luxury weekend for two in the cosmopolitan city of Milan.
Kristina Sohanpaul from Ernst & Young gained second place and Elizabeth Holloway from PricewaterhouseCoopers was placed third. There were also three additional runners-up (in no particular order); George Herd from BDO Stoy Hayward, Chris Hirst from Deloitte and Joseph Hennigan from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Lee Sweeney, Sharp Consultancy’s West Yorkshire director said: “All six finalist have achieved a great deal within such a short period of time and I congratulate them all on their dedication and commitment. The pool of talent emerging from West Yorkshire is phenomenal and the standard of entries is raising the bar year on year, giving Yorkshire business access to some of best people in the business.”
